Carol Pelton has practiced immigration law for over 10 years. Prior to opening Pelton + Balducci, Ms. Pelton was a Senior Associate heading the consular processing and inadmissibility waiver practice at an immigration law firm in the Gulf Coast area. She also has extensive experience handling cases involved in litigation before the Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), including cases of individuals detained by the Department of Homeland Security. Ms. Pelton previously served as coordinator of the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) Pro Bono Project at the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) in Washington, DC. In this capacity, she advised practitioners nationwide on complex issues on appeal from immigration courts. Prior to that, Ms. Pelton was the Director of the Immigration Program at Chicago Legal Clinic, Inc., where she worked with an under-served population on Chicago’s southwest side. Additional experience includes work as a staff attorney at a national refugee resettlement agency in the Washington, DC area and teaching English as a second language in Seoul, South Korea. Having lived and studied in Mexico and Uruguay, Ms. Pelton speaks Spanish fluently. She earned her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law-Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). She graduated from the University of Iowa with her B.A. in Spanish Literature and a Certificate in International Business. She is a member of the Illinois bar and the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association (AILA).
