Carol has practiced immigration law for approximately 20 years, primarily representing families and individuals seeking protection from various forms of persecution and crimes. She has extensive experience handling cases involved in litigation before the Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), including cases of individuals detained by the Department of Homeland Security.
She previously served as Coordinator of the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) Pro Bono Project at the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) in Washington, D.C. In this capacity, she advised practitioners nationwide on complex issues on appeal from immigration courts. Prior to that, Carol was a Staff Attorney and then Director of the Immigration Program at Chicago Legal Clinic, Inc., where she worked with an under-served population on Chicago’s southwest side.
Carol’s additional experience includes work as a Staff Attorney at LIRS, a national refugee resettlement agency in the Washington, D.C area and teaching English as a second language in Seoul, South Korea. Having lived and studied in Guanajuato, Mexico and Montevideo, Uruguay, Carol speaks Spanish fluently. She earned her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law-Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). She graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Spanish Literature and a Certificate in International Business. Carol is a member of the Illinois bar and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
